Caroline at Shine starts training for Swim-a-thon to decide her personal challenge

I have started training for a swim-a-thon for Marie Curie which is one of the charities that my buiness supports.  For the event you can choose a predetermined distance which you must complete during a three hour session (1.5k, 2.5k or 5k) or do your own personal simply swim challenge which is more flexible.

I started swimming more regularly after finally being diagonised with fibomyalgia as it helps reduce pain within my muscles and joints.  I have a very relaxed swimming style and swim as part of my remedial exercise program.  It is for this reason I have decided the simply swim challenge is the most appropriate option for me.

I also took the decision (about a year and a half ago) that it was time to leave the desk job after my body had recovered from an long injury period caused by doing hours of waxing for days on end whilst I was an employed therapist.  So coming back into my dream career of beauty therapy to run my own business was a brillant decision.  It has helped to motivate me to keep moving my major muscles and I have the option to pace myself throughout the day if needed.  If you want to find out about fibromyalgia see below.

I haven't formally applied to swim-a-thon yet as I am a person who always wants to ensure I am already achieving the goal before asking for people to sponsor me. I will be making a decision on what my personal challenge will be based on how my training goes over the next fortnight. It will be either 50 - 60 lengths for 5 days a week for a month depending on my stamina.  I would like to do 60 lengths as that is a mile a day.

Currently I am trying to assess whether I can get up to a mile a day (60 lengths) for 5 days for a month in April.  I'm up to 45/50 lengths quite comfortably three days a week but will be  ramping my swimming up to every day this week plus increasing my distance steadly over the time.  So my training is getting serious now as I have no recovery days for my aching muscles in between.  But, I am ensuring that I am in control of how far I am push my body so I don't cause any injuries.  Once I have the first week of swimming 5 days a week it should be easy to maintain.  As I am off on holiday the week before I start my challenge I have made sure there is an indoor pool so I can continue with the training program.

So in the meantime I hope you can give me some positive encouragement to achieve my goal and that when I get my sponsorship page you may consider donating to the Marie Curie charity.

I will let you know soon when I have applied to swim-a-thon and what my ultimate challenge will be.
