"You'll be absolutely delighted, or it's FREE!"

With the New Year we often make resolutions about improving our health and well being.  Some of us promise ourselves that we will go to a beauty salon and have that massage or facial.  But, how do we choose where to go and what do we do if we are disappointed?

I have been working in the beauty industry for over 14 years and have seen for myself that some salons can seem imposing and unnerving because customers do not know what to expect or what service they should get.

At Shine I offer an environment where customers can feel comfortable, can be themselves and not feel guilty about having time for themselves and feel at ease to ask questions. As a customer you should remember is that you are paying someone to help you relax so if the massage is not firm enough, the room is cold, the music too loud you are within your rights to tell your therapist.  A professional therapist should be happy to hear your comments and do their best to rectify these things for you.

A good beauty therapist should help their customers feel at their ease, guide them though the treatment process and ask what your expectations are of your visit and how you want to feel at the end of the treatment.

Shine's customer testimonials, for example, prove we offer experience, exceptional customer service, client care & results as we pride ourselves on tailor making our treatments to each client.

As I specialise in Aromatherapy massage and facials I thought it may be to useful to give an overview of aromatherapy and massage in this blog.

What is aromatherapy?

Smell is a very powerful sense that can work with your memory. Certain smells remind you of events, people and places. In addition to this, smells can also take you back to how you felt about what you're remembering. It activates your emotional memory.

Aromatherapy uses warm essential oils to activate your sense of smell and increase your sense of well-being and helps de-stress your body. The oils are massaged into your skin, can be dropped into water for you to bathe in, or blended with other oils or steam for you to inhale.

The essential oils used in aromatherapy are powerful and are extracted from plants, shrubs, flowers, bark, peel, resin, grasses, fruits, roots, trees, petals, stems or seeds. Only a small amount of essential oil is needed, and is blended with a larger amount of another "carrier" oil - such as grapeseed oil - and used on the skin.

The most frequently used essential oils include chamomile, lavender, rosemary and tea-tree.

The perceived healing power of essential oils is the main attraction of aromatherapy. Claims of aromatherapy enhancing emotional, physical or spiritual health cannot be tested scientifically, but of course many people do give anecdotal evidence for improvements in these areas.

As aromatherapy is given in the form of a massage it will also include these benefits too.

Massage

In the UK, a relaxation massage is usually a body treatment involving soft music, soft lighting and aromatherapy oils.

At Shine you will have a stress busting relaxing massage which will use all kinds of techniques including long strokes, gentle kneading and rolling of skin and muscle, and perhaps some rhythmic rocking from side to side. It is a passive treatment. You just lie there and take it.

Some deep tissue work will be carried out to release muscle tension if necessary.

This is the massage to choose if you just want to chill out, and be pampered and spoiled.

Benefits of a massage

A good relaxation massage relieves stress and tension in your muscles and will give you a wonderful sense of wellbeing and health benefits. It achieves this through the general benefits of massage including: improving your circulation, so your organs and skin get more oxygen; and moves fluid through your lymphatic system. A massage encourages your body to digest its food, and get rid of toxins trapped in muscles. It will help you to sleep better. A massage will also help un-knot any muscles, soothe aches and sprains and encourage the skin to heal minor abrasions.

It is a natural instinct to rub or cuddle someone to give them comfort; a massage uses the instinct of touch to give a lovely feeling of comfort to the client.

Customer Testimonial

Karen says "Caroline tailors the massage not only to the customer but to the individual needs of that customer at the time. I usually book in early afternoon, taking a late lunch from work, and return to the office feeling relaxed and revitalised, ready to take on the world again. Caroline’s excellent use of pressure keeps my shoulders and neck loose and prevents return of a long-term arm injury which could otherwise periodically keep me out of work altogether. "
