Some of you may be already aware if you have come into Shine recently or have been reading my blog that I have been training for the annual Swim a Thon event.

I hope to swim 60 lengths a day, 4 days a week for 16 sessions during the month of April.  It is a challenging target for me personally but one that I beleive I can achieve with a bit of planning and pushing through some muscle aches and pains.

I have been training hard  by swimming 60 lengths a day for about 3 or 4 days a week.  I am finding the swimming part is the easier bit.  However, if anyone can give me advice on how to stop some massive energy drops and feeling tired during the day I would be grateful.  The other side effect I seem to be suffering from is I have a bit of a sneezing habit developing - I think it must be the chlorine.

As a result of the training and because of the above side effects I have decided that it is best to have rest days inbetween the swims.  So my plan to complete my challenge is to swim on Mondays, Wednesday, Fridays and Sundays (I will not be working part time on Sundays soon) before I start work.

It is tricky to find the time and the energy so I can lane swim in a 1 hour 30 minute slot (without the pool being reduced in size for classes or having to get up really early) plus continuing to work till 21.00 at my salon.  However, I am getting more used to planning the swims and dealing with my work load now.  It does help you understand what anyone at the top of their profession must go through to fit everything into their life.

I am certainly improving my swimming technique - it must be all the practice.  My 60 length swims have reduced in duration slightly.  It was taking about 1 hour 20 minutes but I seem to be coming down to about 1 hour 7 minutes now.  Plus I have become comfortable swimming with my head underwater if I have some googles on to protect my eyes - this is a first of me.  I have never been a fast or strong swimmer but I am consistant, have trained and I hope that is what will get me through April.

So if you want to sponsor someone who is not a great sports person or swimmer but is consistant, determined and committed to complete her challenge please sponsor me on the link below.  I want to raise as much money as I can to Marie Curie Cancer Care.  It is unfortunate that most of us have been affected with someone we know & love having cancer so I would be personally grateful if you can sponsor me for this worthy cause.  Thank you.
